On Nakadōri Island, one of the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture, lives the happy Saeki family. Father Toru (played by Ken Matsudaira) and his wife Misayo (played by Jun Fubuki) raise their five children: Amu (played by Sōfu Takaoka), Kozue (played by Noriko Nakakut), Chizuru (played by Maki Horikita), Shizuka (played by Karen Miyama), and Gōta (played by Shūma Nakamura). Toru loves his hometown, his family, and hard work, but this strong-willed father inevitably interferes with his children's freedom. The photography-loving Chizuru gradually grows up, unwilling to be bossed around by her father any longer, and after graduating, she dreams of going to Tokyo to pursue her ambitions. A father-daughter conflict is unavoidable, yet the stubborn father will eventually relent, while the hometown remains an indelible bond for the children who wander away... This film is based on the novel by Masashi Sada.
