27-year-old city girl Asako Katsuragi (played by Masami Nagasawa) faces setbacks in her job search after graduating from university. With her father's connections, she finally secures a job at an editorial department, where her love for food makes her work enjoyable. However, the good times don't last long as her company suddenly collapses, leaving her unemployed once again. Feeling lost about the future and love, Asako, who has been privileged since childhood, decides to try living on her own. She rents a rooftop apartment and during this time, she meets her enthusiastic neighbor Maki Inukuma (played by Maki Sakai) and takes in her friend Yuka (played by Sayaka Aoshima), who is experiencing a marital crisis. Thanks to a kind introduction from her former company president, she finds a job at the company run by Shunichiro Kudo (played by Eisaku Yoshida). Her life seems to get back on track as her friends, colleagues, and family gradually find their rhythm amidst the bustling city life. This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Sawako Agawa.
