One day, the orphanage sought out Celestina (played by Valérie Karsenti), hoping she would consider adopting little Paul Karadek (played by Jean Scandel). Celestina was conflicted because she knew Paul’s biological mother and was aware of some background information about him, so she initially refused the request. However, when she witnessed Paul’s tragic situation in the orphanage, her compassion and sense of responsibility prompted her to ultimately make the decision to take the risk of accepting the child. Celestina, after concealing Paul’s identity, brought him to the estate where she worked. Her husband Borel (played by Eric Elmosnino) was a forest ranger, outraged about protecting the wildlife in the forest, especially against poacher Totosh, whom he despised. Totosh was clever and agile, often successfully escaping from Borel’s pursuits, which frustrated Borel greatly. However, arranged by Celestina, Paul met Totosh and formed a special friendship with him. He began learning about the forest and hunting alongside Totosh, making his childhood vibrant and exciting.
