In 1959, the body of a female was discovered by the banks of the Musashino Genbakuzugawa River in Tokyo. The deceased, named Setsuko Ikuta (played by Fumino Kimura), was a flight attendant on international routes. An autopsy confirmed that Setsuko was strangled to death by someone's brute strength. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department quickly established a special investigation team, and the soon-to-retire detective Rokuro Fujisawa (played by Takeshi Kitano) volunteered to join. Fujisawa appears to be a troublesome figure who does not follow rules and is stubborn, prompting the organization to assign rookie detective Yutaka Ichimura (played by Eita) to team up with him to keep Fujisawa’s actions in check. However, Ichimura is completely unable to control his senior’s actions, and soon both discover that a blue Renault belonging to a foreign national was present at the scene on the night of the incident, leading them to the Brazilian Guillermo Church. The involvement of foreigners puts immense pressure on the investigation team. Meanwhile, Fujisawa, who swears to vindicate the deceased, continues to plunge into the darkness...
