Makita Hiroshi (played by Ryo Kase) works as an administrative veterinarian at an animal protection center; however, his primary job involves the humane euthanasia of stray cats and dogs that remain unadopted within a specified timeframe. While this work has its significance and value, it weighs heavily on the mental health of Hiroshi and his colleagues. Haneda Aki (played by Eriko Todani) even has to seek help from a placebo for comfort. Despite the inner pain, Hiroshi continues to perform his duties day after day. One day, a woman named Takano Ayako (played by Yuko Tanaka) becomes the new director, bringing profound changes to the animal protection center. Takano starts naming the stray animals and caring for them meticulously, something Hiroshi could never have imagined, as giving them names would mean developing feelings, which would only cause him more anguish. However, gradually, Takano's optimistic spirit begins to inspire Hiroshi and his team, prompting them to think of ways to prevent the animals from being euthanized.
