"On the Sand Line" tells the story of two families in Minqin County, Gansu Province, who struggle for survival as the ever-expanding desert erodes their home. The villagers here firmly believe in protecting Minqin from being engulfed by the yellow sand, and they have their own methods. The government implemented an environmental migration policy, forcing these indigenous people to relocate to other places. However, He Fangfei's grandfather refuses to leave with his family, believing that "sand control relies on the common people" and that "people retreating will not lead to the sand retreating." Having lived alongside the wind and sand for decades, this weathered elder faces the clouds of yellow sand brought about by human activities with resilience.
