This documentary is part of the BBC Horizon series, telling the story of humanity's best friend – dogs. Humans and dogs have lived together for over twelve thousand years, and the bond between them is far closer than that with any other animal; they are a part of our daily lives. However, apart from this long shared history, how much do we really understand our canine friends? Host Dallas Campbell sifts through the Horizon archives, attempting to discover through scientific means whether we should change the way we treat them, employing new ideas and methods to care for our best friends, the dogs. From investigating the primal wolf nature of dogs, he finds that humans have played a crucial role in their evolution. Dallas explores the close relationship between humans and dogs, and how we can better utilize and manage them. For over forty years, the Horizon program and the BBC have been committed to the study of canine nature.
