"On the eve of the September 18 Incident, Liu Changchun (Li Zhaolin) is a student at Northeast University, training in sprinting under the guidance of a German coach. After the incident, he returns to his hometown of Dalian. Liu Changchun witnesses the devastated state of his country but never gives up training, determined that one day he will bring glory to his nation. His commitment is supported by his wife Jiang Xiuzhen (Ma Jing). Under the control of the Japanese, the puppet state wants him to represent 'Manchukuo' at the Olympics.
