Jason is the son of King Aeson, whose brother Pelias usurped the throne. Jason was raised by the centaur Chiron. After growing up, Jason returned to the kingdom to reclaim his throne from his uncle. His uncle, however, required him to complete a task—retrieve the Golden Fleece. If Jason could achieve this, his uncle would relinquish the throne. Jason led a group of Greek heroes and journeyed to Colchis, the location of the Golden Fleece. Medea (played by Maria Callas) is the daughter of the king of Colchis, and she falls in love with Jason. She steals the Golden Fleece and gives it to Jason. Betraying her father and killing her brother, she is willing to sacrifice everything to escape with Jason and live together in a distant land. However, ten years later, Jason no longer loves Medea; he abandons her and their two sons to marry a princess from another kingdom. Filled with rage and heartbreak, Medea decides to take revenge on Jason. She uses witchcraft to kill the king and his daughter, and she also kills her own two sons...
