In the 1950s, after the end of World War II, Japan was in a period of reconstruction. Many young talents aspiring to become manga artists gathered in Tokyo, eager to create works beloved by children. Struggling to make ends meet, they moved to Tokiwakyo, a sanctuary for manga artists overseen by Osamu Tezuka, among whom was Hiroshi Terada (played by Masahiro Motoki). Neighbors included Suketoshi Anzai (played by Takuro Suzuki), Hiroshi Fujimoto (played by Sadao Abe) (who later co-created the pen name "Fujiko Fujio"), Shotaro Ishinomori (played by Koji Sato), and Fujio Akatsuka (played by Yoshiyuki Omori). Although life was tough, they continued to strive for their shared dream... This film is based on the true history of the Japanese manga scene. Tokiwakyo, located in South Nagasaki, Toshima, Tokyo, was built in 1952 and demolished in 1982 due to aging and rebuilt. The "God of Manga," Osamu Tezuka, was one of its earliest residents, and it later became a gathering place for young manga artists, with as many as seven or eight artists living and working there.
