Seventeen-year-old high school girl Greta (played by Hilary Duff) comes from a broken family. Her mother, who divorced early, has now remarried, and in order to please this hard-won support, she turns a deaf ear to Greta's complaints and dissatisfaction. Unhappy with her life, Greta contemplates suicide, and after being sent by her mother to her grandmother’s house in New Jersey, her plan for death moves to the forefront, leading to the creation of a list of things to accomplish before dying. On her path toward a generous demise, Greta encounters an unexpected love. However, the power of love is not enough to save a girl who has lost hope. Ultimately, Greta, with an anchor tied to her ankle, leaps into the sea. This unsuccessful attempt at death awakens Greta to the realization of what is truly worth cherishing in life, and gradually, a broken heart and a broken family begin to find redemption.
