After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Japanese army advanced relentlessly, killing and plundering our compatriots, inciting deep hatred among the people. Unfortunately, the isolated forces were weak and powerless against the invaders. The Japanese army pressed into the Central Plains, and the advance troops reached the crucial stronghold: Maijia Village. The Japanese army commander Ichiro Noda initially thought that the small Maijia Village, faced with the Japanese army's mechanized forces, would surely surrender and be conquered. However, at the critical moment, Maijia's father contacted villagers from neighboring villages to form a guerrilla force, using homemade gunpowder made from saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal to manufacture landmines and resist fiercely. In no time, the Japanese troops were repeatedly repelled, and the Maijia landmines instilled fear in them. The cunning Noda decided to capture a large number of Chinese people, coercing some weak individuals to become traitors and infiltrate the Maijia guerrilla group to create internal strife. Among them was the agile and intelligent kid Xiaozhi, who wanted to fight alongside Maijia's father but was stopped by his father, who believed that Xiaozhi should focus on studying and literacy to achieve greater things in the future. Xiaozhi was determined to serve the country and followed his grandfather's opera troupe to Liangcheng, where the Japanese army was stationed, to perform patriotic plays like "Jingwumen," awakening the sleeping patriotism of the people. Unfortunately, he was captured. In prison, Xiaozhi encountered communist party member Xu Sandong, who was disguised as a big traitor infiltrating the enemy's ranks. With Sandong's help, Xiaozhi miraculously escaped and became a small undercover agent. Xiaozhi sought opportunities to feign flattery to the Japanese army, even using his family's traditional Chinese medicine techniques, quickly becoming a favored figure in Noda's eyes. At the same time, Noda successfully bribed village spy Cai Ding to infiltrate the guerrilla team. Thus, the situation of undercover agents facing each other persisted. After Xiaozhi's grandfather and other villagers were captured, his father decided to launch a night raid on the Japanese army headquarters to rescue them, but this news was leaked to Noda by Cai Ding. The Japanese army decided to turn the tables, binding the villagers to stakes, dressing them in soldier uniforms while their soldiers disguised themselves as villagers, waiting for the guerrilla team to arrive and annihilate them in one strike. As night fell, Xiaozhi saw his grandfather and others being dressed in Japanese military uniforms, becoming anxious while his grandfather and the other villagers thought Xiaozhi had sold out his country for glory. Xiaozhi struggled internally. The ambush team arrived, and fortunately, Xiaozhi cleverly climbed the city wall and used a searchlight to flash Morse code, allowing his father to receive the information and retreat safely. Seeing the searchlight's Morse code, Noda grew suspicious and Xiaozhi framed Noda's right-hand man, Xiao Chun, who took the blame. Cai Ding leaked news again that the guerrilla team had run out of gunpowder and lacked materials to make more, deciding to sneak into the Japanese military camp to steal gunpowder. Xiaozhi and Sandong worked together and executed a "separate the tiger from the mountain" strategy to successfully obtain gunpowder with the guerrilla team. They finally acquired the gunpowder and Japanese landmines; however, a Japanese reconnaissance team was ordered to come. Xiaozhi again used a kite to send messages but was disrupted by Xiao Chun. Noda, suspicious of everyone, played a game with Xiao Chun, Sandong, and Xiaozhi. Unable to send any messages, Maijia Village was in imminent danger. In this crisis, Xiaozhi came up with a brilliant idea, sending out intelligence, though he was unsure if his father would notice the details of the message. With no other options, he decided to take a gamble. The Japanese army assembled forces, led by reconnaissance team leader Kitada, to scan for mines, and Noda was smug. Xiaozhi saw Kitada and Xiao Chun vying for Noda's favor and used a divide-and-conquer strategy to sow discord between them. As they competed for merit, while attempting to find the mines, Xiaozhi's father had already received news, buying up broken pots and scrap metal in the fields. They not only failed to discover the mines but instead stepped on one, shouting for help, while the Japanese army was trapped in the minefield, suffering numerous casualties. Noda had no choice but to retreat and reconsider his strategy. Unwilling to accept repeated defeats, and prompted by Cai Ding's reminder about the existence of an undercover agent, Noda began to distrust everyone. That night, he regrouped forces, planning to sneak attack Maijia Village under the cover of darkness, using villagers like Xiaozhi's grandfather as advance scouts to trigger the landmines. The grandfather and the villagers faced death with righteousness, while Xiaozhi felt deeply upset but unable to express it. More importantly, he needed to figure out how to notify his father. As they were about to enter the minefield, Xiaozhi suddenly conceived an extraordinary plan, leading his father and the guerrilla team to bravely rescue the villagers. Upon returning to camp, Noda furiously accused Xiaozhi, Xiao Chun, Sandong, and Kitada of being undercover agents. He decided to bring everyone to the ultimate interrogation location—Fengsheng Castle. Employing various tactics inspired by the movie "The Message," Noda's policy of "better to kill wrongly than to let go" was tightening, forcing Xiaozhi and Sandong to decide to make one last stand. Though they successfully escaped, Sandong was shot. Xiaozhi vowed to avenge Sandong and the countless victims killed by Noda, driving them out of Maijia Village and, in the future, to expel all Japanese invaders from China. Back in Maijia Village, Xiaozhi's primary task was to identify the undercover agent in the guerrilla team. He and his father acted in concert, with his father intentionally resigning from the position of guerrilla leader, bearing humiliation to secretly expose Cai Ding as the undercover agent. At this point, Noda had lost patience and finally deployed his trump card—tanks. Noda gathered 50 tanks and marched towards Maijia Village with the intent of flattening it. The battle between landmines and tanks was about to erupt! Xiaozhi used the landmines to trigger explosives, destroying the first tank in line. Meanwhile, his father pulled the stone mines, blowing up a hillside to trap all the Japanese tanks in Maijia Village, unable to move. Villagers set numerous fires, burning their homes, and in an instant, the entire Maijia Village became a sea of flames, causing the tanks to overheat. Some exploded spontaneously, while Japanese soldiers escaping the tanks caught fire. Watching the sea of flames, tears welled up in everyone's eyes. Under the leadership of Xiaozhi and his father, the guerrilla team ultimately defeated the Japanese army, firmly holding Maijia Village, turning it into a joyous ocean.
