Anna (played by Dana Ivgy) spends her days baking colorful and sweet cupcakes to comfort others, yet she is deeply troubled by her husband's departure. A live broadcast of the European singing competition auditions is on TV, and her sister friends gather to watch, cheerfully joining in song. Unexpectedly, their neighbor Ofer (played by Ofer Shechter) secretly submits a clip of their singing to enter the competition. Even more surprisingly, this choir composed of gay men and housewives is chosen to represent Israel! Ordinary men and women quickly transform into the nation's hope—can they truly bring glory to their country? Israeli gay director Itay Fox has always had a passion for musical themes. Though Israel is located in Asia and faces strong competition, it culturally aligns more with Europe. The new film "Cupcake" uses the backdrop of the European Song Contest to portray a vibrant and emotional Israeli life while showing love and care for marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community and women.
