Born in October 1941 as a Nikkei Bolivian, Ernesto Uemura Freddy grew up in a wealthy family. During his youth, he witnessed the significant social disparity between the rich and the poor, prompting him to frequently express concern for his impoverished friends. Deciding to pursue medicine for the sake of humanity, he met Che Guevara while studying at a medical school in Cuba, which changed the course of his life.
