After Skynet gains independent consciousness, it conducts a bloody massacre against the humans who created it. In the subsequent years, John Connor (Jason Clarke) leads his comrades in a protracted war against Skynet's robotic army. After a crucial battle, Skynet sends a Terminator back to Los Angeles in 1984 to kill John's mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke). John sends his closest comrade—and his biological father—Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to the past. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Kyle is attacked by the liquid metal Terminator T-1000 (Lee Byung-hun).
