The black supernatural detective film "The Ninth Division," directed by emerging talent Wang Dinglin, emerged from a story he encountered two years ago. Initially designed as a thriller detective style, he felt that Taiwan lacks such entertainment films, thus he aimed to create a Hollywood buddy cop commercial film reminiscent of "Men in Black" and "Kingsman," where seasoned veterans guide newcomers. The production of the black supernatural detective film "The Ninth Division" is a collaboration between Universal Productions, Huawen Creative, Let’s Down International Entertainment, and MM2 Full Bump Entertainment and officially held its groundbreaking ceremony on the morning of July 1. Producers Wang Jun, Ye Rufen, and Chen Hongyuan, along with producer Hao Boxiang from Let’s Down, and screenwriter Zhang Guoli, were present. The main cast includes Peng Qiaoqiao, Qiu Ze, Wen Zhengling, Liu Yier, and special appearances by Gao Yingxuan, Xiao Ba, among others, all expressing excitement about participating in this rare fantasy supernatural black detective film in Taiwanese cinema. The ceremony also included special offerings for worship. The black supernatural detective movie "The Ninth Division," directed by emerging director Wang Dinglin, was initially intended as a thriller detective story. However, realizing that these types of entertainment films are scarce in Taiwan, he hoped to create a buddy cop movie similar to "Men in Black" and "Kingsman," which received enthusiastic support from investors, including Huawen Creative. It took two years to develop the script with screenwriter Zhang Guoli before they finally began filming. The director joked that he was afraid of watching horror films, yet ironically, his first film would be a supernatural detective one. When selecting the cast for "The Ninth Division," the director first considered inviting Peng Qiaoqiao to portray a veteran detective, wanting to present a different contrasting image—serious and stable. The director jokingly mentioned that he wanted Peng to challenge himself without being funny or speaking Taiwanese. Peng Qiaoqiao expressed initial hesitation about taking on the film due to its demanding nature but agreed immediately upon reading the script, stating, "The story is very Hollywood, a deadpan detective like Tommy Lee Jones." He humorously hoped to transform into a new handsome persona, albeit feeling pressure from the action scenes. Qiu Ze, in this film, sheds his previous idol flower-boy image and challenges himself to portray a detective who can see another world, "an honest old-style character with a sense of justice, different from before." Guided by his seniors, he reassesses the relationship between the human and ghost worlds, despite his fear of horror films, which gives him goosebumps; both he and the director still aspire to push the horror to the extreme in this film. "The Ninth Division" describes a police officer, Ah Hao, full of justice but clumsy by nature, causing his partner to die in the line of duty, leading him to a mysterious unit known as the "Ninth Division." Here, he undergoes training under leader Old Zhang while meeting new colleagues like Xiaoxue and passionate journalist Ruxin, getting embroiled in a mysterious serial murder case...
