The ongoing war between the Autobots and Decepticons has brought tremendous damage to Earth. In response, countries around the world have united to form a response force aimed at exterminating all Transformers, regardless of whether they are good or evil. Cade Yeager (played by Mark Wahlberg), a human closely associated with Optimus Prime, disregards the opposition of those around him and the pressure from the government, providing shelter to Autobots like Bumblebee and Crosshairs. During this time, he inadvertently obtains a medal, drawing the crisis towards himself. The missing Optimus Prime drifts back to Cybertron, where he is captured by Quintessa, the creator of the Transformers, and turned evil. She commands him to return to Earth to find the supreme staff, destroy the planet, and revive Cybertron. Meanwhile, Megatron reaches an agreement with the Earth government to jointly pursue Cade and his allies, with the same goal of obtaining the staff that once belonged to the wizard Merlin.
