The story takes place in a picturesque town during a time of war, where all the strong and healthy men in the village have been conscripted. Either they are bravely fighting on the front lines, or they have already turned to dust, leaving behind a group of wives and daughters waiting endlessly at home. At this time, the only male left in the village is a frail old man, which means he has become the sole hope for the village women to carry on the lineage. One day, sisters Meier (Katarina Radivojevic) and Oggjenika (Sonja Kolacaric) are the last two mourners in the village. However, Oggjenika accidentally causes the death of the only remaining old man.
