Clarice Cliff (played by Phoebe Dynevor) is a lively young factory worker in the industrial heart of England during the 1920s. Her creativity and ambition drive her from one factory to another, impacting the family economy she shares with her widowed mother Anne (played by Kerry Fox) and youngest sister Dot (played by Darcy Shaw). She continuously comes up with innovative ideas involving colors and shapes while taking on increasing risks, managing to stay ahead in the factory and impressing the eccentric factory owner (played by Matthew Goode) with her talent and innovation. Under the guidance of renowned art designer Fred Richwaite (played by David Morrissey) and with the support of the factory owner and female workers, Clarice designs the unprecedented Deco "Bizarre" collection. During the Great Depression, she ensures the survival of the factory and secures her future as one of the greatest and most recognized decorative art designers.
