In 1985, San Francisco. The AIDS crisis has just begun, and the city is brewing with panic and unease, with fear and discrimination against homosexuals visible everywhere. Newspapers even loudly question: “Shouldn’t homosexuals be isolated?” Frankie (played by Scott Marlowe), a newcomer in a modern dance company, is often mocked by other members for his soft and feminine movements. The only one who doesn’t mock him is the bad boy of the troupe, Todd (played by Matthew Risch). The two, despite their contrasting personalities, quickly become good friends and develop deeper feelings for each other. As members of the dance company drop out due to AIDS, Frankie begins to face the challenge of stepping onto the stage for the first time. However, the true harsh reality of this century's disease is the real test of life. Frankie takes his first AIDS test, and its result may change everything... In that era, when "Test" was preceded by the definite article, everyone would know it referred to the AIDS test. "Try·Love·Dance" is not only about love but also about AIDS. The director recreates the historical context of the 1980s and uses it to capture the bittersweet emotional state of those bravely loving amidst confusion and fear. The film won the Jury Award at the 2013 Los Angeles Outfest.
