Gary Oldman has publicly stated that the reason he took on roles in films like "Air Force One" was because the lucrative salaries in Hollywood allowed him the means to make his own movies. Though to date, he has only written and directed one film, "Do Not Swallow," it has already achieved a gloomy ambiance that rivals Mike Leigh. Like "Irreversible," this film concentrates extreme elements such as drugs, rape, and violence, but the story unfolds not through the classic "conflict," but rather through the fragmented, mundane life of office workers in South London, intermingled with the chaotic state of addicts and drunks. It is filled with multiple accents, which may present comprehension difficulties; regardless, it is unlikely many will choose to rewatch a film that is so exhausting plot-wise.
