Uzo Aduba from "Orange Is the New Black," Aunjanue Ellis as "Hippolyta" in "Lovecraft Country," and Sanaa Lathan, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as "Lisa" in "Succession," will team up in the new film from Spotlight Pictures, "The Supremes At Earl's All-You-Can-Eat." The film is adapted from the 2013 novel by Edward Kelsey Moore, and will be directed by Tina Mabry, who previously won the Chicago International Film Festival with "The Cursed Mississippi." Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for "The Old Guard" and "The Woman King," will handle the screenplay. The story revolves around three friends, "Odette," "Clarice," and "Barbara Jean," who met in high school and formed a close-knit group called "The Supremes," having shared over forty years of friendship. The restaurant in Plainview, Indiana, serves as their second home, where they share their experiences of marriage, parenting, joy, and sorrow, weathering life's storms together. This year presents the biggest challenges yet for the trio: the proud and talented Clarice struggles to regain normalcy following her husband's disgraceful infidelity; the beautiful Barbara Jean is shaken by the tragic fallout of a young romance; and the fearless Odette is about to embark on the most terrifying battle of her life. Edward’s two novels place these three friends, who support and rely on each other, at their center, capturing the preciousness of female friendship, and quickly garnered enthusiastic responses for their humor and heartwarming storytelling.
