In 1927, Shanghai was enveloped in white terror. On the day that Communist Party member Jianhua was killed by the enemy, his son was born. The underground party leader moved his wife, Minwen, to the Soviet area and entrusted their son to worker Gu Agen for adoption, naming him Xiaoliang. After many twists and turns, Xiaoliang was adopted by a wealthy family. At the age of 10, Xiaoliang learned about his origins and ran away to Shanghai to search for his mother. Minwen just happened to be on her way to Northern Jiangsu to pick up Xiaoliang, but he was no longer there. Xiaoliang, wandering on the streets, was found by Gu Agen, who took him with the refugees to Wuhan. During their journey, they were bombed, but with the help of an injured soldier, Xiaoliang arrived in Wuhan and became a young soldier. When Minwen saw Xiaoliang, she couldn’t acknowledge him due to her special identity. It wasn't until they both arrived in Yan'an that Xiaoliang finally reunited with the mother he had missed day and night.
