The ambitious scholar Yang Yuwei (Xing Minshan) studies diligently in a deserted study and meets the beautiful ghost Lian Suo (Fu Yiwei). A love gradually develops between them. When he learns that the grim reaper in the underworld, Bai Wuchang, wants to take Lian Suo as his concubine, Yuwei thwarts his plans and brings Lian Suo back to his home.
