Every year, many different species of migratory birds fly thousands of miles back and forth across the U.S.-Mexico border, indifferent to the various laws and obstacles created by humans. Devoted birdwatchers on both sides of the border, as well as people from all political factions, share a deep emotional connection to these beings and their perilous journeys. The documentary short "Birdwatchers," directed by Otilia Portillo Padua ("Diario a Tres Voces"), celebrates those who observe, record, monitor, and fight for the rights and habitats of these species, presenting migration as a means of survival from a different perspective.
