Allen Iverson, one of the greatest legendary stars in NBA history, returns to the fans' attention in the form of a documentary. The latest personal documentary is simply titled "Iverson The Movie". On May 17, the documentary premiered on Showtime, a documentary channel under CBS, and will continue to air for a month. Unlike documentaries of other big-name stars, Iverson chose a relatively unknown director, Zatella Beatty. This film is her directorial debut. “When I started engaging in filmmaking, I couldn’t be sure what the final product would look like. Later, I chose a relatively calm narrative style for Iverson, but the impact is very shocking and powerful,” Zatella Beatty said in a phone interview with The Huffington Post. It is well known that Iverson is one of the most controversial stars in the NBA. Standing at just 6 feet tall, Iverson, with his incredible talent and willpower, joined the NBA as the first overall pick in 1996. Throughout his career, he was a four-time scoring champion, an 11-time All-Star, and won the MVP award for the 2000-2001 regular season. After reaching the peak of his career, Iverson fell into decline due to numerous injuries. In the 2006-2007 season, after playing for the 76ers for 10 years, Iverson went through Memphis, Philadelphia, and Turkey, gradually heading towards the decline of his career. In 2013, he ultimately retired in a low profile, citing injuries. Additionally, various scandals off the court also dealt a double blow to Iverson in terms of his career and family. Therefore, external evaluations of this former NBA superstar are often mixed praises. “In the documentary, we attempt to string together significant moments from the past twelve years, allowing people to understand his decisions both on and off the court,” Zatella Beatty stated, noting that the film aims to present the facts of those important events and restore a true image of Iverson for fans and skeptics alike.
