Guy (John Cassavetes) has a wife, Rosemary (Mia Farrow), who appears thin and fragile. Since they moved into a new apartment, Guy has been getting along well with an elderly couple who are their neighbors. However, Rosemary doesn't particularly like this couple, and she becomes increasingly uncomfortable with a series of strange occurrences. Rosemary sees a woman commit suicide, and as the atmosphere of her life grows more bizarre, she starts having terrifying dreams. In her nightmares, a hairy creature assaults her, and shortly after waking from one of these nightmares, she discovers she is pregnant. The elderly neighbor comes to care for Rosemary and her unborn child, but Rosemary gradually begins to suspect that all the strange happenings are connected to this seemingly kind and benevolent neighbor, or even her own husband! They are conspiring against Rosemary's baby. Is it Rosemary's hallucination or is there something sinister afoot? When she sees that her newborn baby has no pupils in its eyes, Rosemary knows that the devil's presence is near.
