The elderly woman Zhou Jin (played by Ge Zhaomei) lives alone in a rural area by the canal and suddenly gets diagnosed with a brain tumor, forcing her children, who are scattered in different locations, to return home to care for her. Her eldest daughter Su Nianzhen (played by Liu Dan) runs a study abroad consulting agency in Shanghai and is going through her second divorce; she insists on giving her mother the best treatment. Her younger son Su Nianqing (played by Wu Zhoukai) is a wandering tour guide who supports their mother by encouraging her to let go and accept impermanence.
