The third princess Miaoshan of the Majestic King of the Western Tianzhu, is compassionate and has wise eyes. The Majestic King destroys the country of Pilu and treats the captives cruelly. Miaoshan leads the captives to ascend the rainbow and cross the river. Due to his fury, the king falls ill; the doctors say that only with Miaoshan's eyes and hands combined as medicine can he be cured. Miaoshan gouges out her eyes and severs her arms, and when the king takes the concoction, he is miraculously cured. While the king personally leads the officials to pay homage to the mountain, Miaoshan has already attained nirvana, transforming into the "Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes Guanyin" form.
