In the night, when a woman's singing is heard, it signifies that someone will be killed. The next day, many heads will hang in the street. This murderer is named Jade Demon (played by Cheng Pei-pei), who specifically targets people with the surname Yan. In an inn, a hero named Xu Yinghao (played by Tang Jing) is preparing to seek revenge on his enemy, Shi Yongshan (played by Gu Feng), for the murder of his father. By chance, he encounters the Jade Demon, who is using the alias Leng Qiuhan. Xu Yinghao asks why she intends to kill all the Yan family members, to which the Jade Demon replies: There are 20 brothers in the Yan family, and I don’t know exactly who killed my entire family, but one of them is definitely the murderer. After they part ways, Xu Yinghao arrives in Shijiazhuang and encounters a drunken man who claims to be Shi Yongshan. Xu Yinghao raises his axe and strikes, killing the drunkard on the spot. The local villagers hear the commotion and tell Xu Yinghao that he has killed the wrong person; the real Shi Yongshan has already moved away. Xu Yinghao vows to sheathe his sword and no longer kill.
