The film revolves around three boxers from different backgrounds. Akira Enonaga (played by Mirai Moriyama) has fallen from his professional peak to become a marginal underdog boxer, often treated as a "soft persimmon" for others to gain confidence. He sometimes loses himself and even considers giving up boxing, but after hitting rock bottom, he has an epiphany and ultimately returns to the ring to seek the meaning of existence. Ryota Omura (played by Takumi Kitamura) is a young boxer burdened by secrets; abandoned by his parents as a child, he even took a path of rebellion and delinquency. His shattered life finds new hope through boxing, and he is unstoppable despite his inexperience. Shun Miyuki (played by Ryo Katsuji) is a comic actor from a famous family. Under the scrutiny of his father, he loses himself and struggles to find his place. Participating in a boxing match as part of a television show's special project, he attempts to prove himself through boxing beneath his humorous facade, seeking victory. The film "The Underdog: Adversity" primarily focuses on the duel between Akira Enonaga and Shun Miyuki. Initially, their life paths have no intersection, but they find a connection through a special project of a TV show. Both at a low point in life, they are determined to find a glimmer of hope and breakthrough in the boxing ring. Living behind the mask of a comic actor, Shun Miyuki yearns to find his spot in the boxing ring and seeks the value of his own existence through his relentless efforts. Even when he falls disgracefully, he grits his teeth, stands up again, and continues to fight, ultimately earning cheers and recognition from the audience. Meanwhile, Akira Enonaga, already suffering from the indifference of those around him, seems to sink deeper into despair and confusion. Should he continue or give up? What is the true meaning of boxing?
