Tsukamoto Sion continues to explore the years of Japan's defeat after "Wildfire," intertwining two scarred short stories through the footsteps and gaze of a boy. First is a woman in a small bar with nothing, where a man comes to her for more primal physiological purposes, a soldier who always promises to bring money tomorrow, along with a solitary boy who gives her a fleeting hope of family. Next is the journey of a discharged soldier with a task, where the boy witnesses his physically and mentally exhausted arm. Three adult characters struggle painfully, uncertain if they can escape the shadows of war, while the boy silently looks for work and finds a gun. Tsukamoto Sion narrates concisely and directly, probing into the faint ember that continues to exist in the depths of the human heart before the arrival of pigs and battleships.
