Officer Edward (played by Nicolas Cage) witnesses a tragic car accident while patrolling the highway. He tries to rescue the girl inside the car but suffers injuries from the explosion. During his days off, Edward frequently experiences hallucinations about the girl, relying on drugs for relief. One day, Edward receives a letter from his long-lost girlfriend, Vero, who disappeared years ago. The letter reveals that she has been living on a secluded island, and recently, her daughter Ron has gone missing. No one on the island is willing to help her, so she turns to Edward for assistance. Coincidentally, the photo of the daughter looks nearly identical to the girl from the accident. Edward arrives at the remote island, filled with doubts. Through his investigation, he discovers that the island's residents seem to be deliberately hiding Ron's existence, and all evidence appears to be connected to a mysterious local ritual...
