In the 19th century, the British Empire dominated the seas, and Queen Victoria (voiced by Imelda Staunton) was proud and overbearing, yet the rampant pirates still made her furious. Among these outlaws, the pirate captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) appeared somewhat shabby, followed by a crew of old, weak, sick, and disabled members. Each time they attempted to rob, they were full of spirit but ended up with nothing. One day, on Blood Island, he was ridiculed by industry experts, including the cunning Black Bellamy (voiced by Jeremy Piven) and the sword-wielding Liz (voiced by Salma Hayek). To prove his worth and win the annual Pirate Award, the captain began to plunder far and wide, ultimately unexpectedly befriending the biologist Darwin (voiced by David Tennant). Darwin discovered that the captain's pet was actually the long-extinct dodo bird. He then sweet-talked the captain into going to London for the annual scientist competition, leading the captain further away from his pirate path... This film is the first 3D stop-motion animation by the British company Aardman.
