This film is adapted from Henry James's novel "The Turn of the Screw." In the late 19th century, beautiful schoolteacher Miss Giddens (played by Deborah Kerr) arrives at a country estate to take care of her employer's niece Flora (played by Pamela Franklin) and nephew Miles (played by Martin Stephens). Soon, Miss Giddens discovers that she often sees strange apparitions, as if the house is haunted by ghosts, and the children are possessed by demons, speaking or acting in overly mature and bizarre ways. The housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (played by Megs Jenkins), reveals to her that it might all be related to the underground romance of the deceased former governess and the butler. Miss Giddens is determined to rescue the children from the demons' influence, but could the apparitions she sees be merely her own hallucinations? The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and received two nominations from the British Film Academy for Best British Film and Best Film.
