The story takes place in an apartment in New York, where women dressed in vibrant colors savor their own joys and sorrows. Juanita (played by Loretta Devine) is a relationship expert, yet she struggles to manage the man she loves. Krista (played by Kimberly Elise) has her once happy family torn apart by the senseless war. On one side, Tangi (played by Thandie Newton) leads a free-spirited life that exhausts her mother, while on the other, the overly religious Leila (played by Tessa Thompson) is no easy light either. Although life is filled with hardships, the women in the apartment never give up on their pursuit of ideals and happiness; their enthusiasm adds color to their gray lives and infects those around them.
