Terry (played by John Travolta) is a movie sound engineer who specializes in recording sound effects for low-budget horror films. During one job, Terry inadvertently records the sound of a car dropping into the water. Shocked, Terry rushes to the accident scene, where he is astonished to discover that a woman named Sally (played by Nancy Allen) inside the car is miraculously still alive. After waking up, Sally tells Terry that the whole accident is not as simple as it seems, and it hides a shocking political conspiracy. Suddenly, Terry finds himself embroiled in a very dangerous situation, and being pursued by a mysterious figure solidifies his determination to uncover the truth. He knows that the truth is always hidden behind great power, and that he faces life-threatening dangers at any moment; in such a turbulent environment, the only person he can trust is himself.
