This film tells the little-known true story of Robert the Bruce. Once a defeated nobleman, he reluctantly became king and, in a twist of fate over a tumultuous year, turned into an outlaw hero. To save his family, people, and country from the brutal English occupation of medieval Scotland, Robert is forced into battle. He seizes the Scottish throne and rallies a ragtag army to resist the world's most powerful army, led by the ruthless King Edward I of England and his capricious son, the Prince of Wales.
