In the 1950s and 60s, Dr. Henry West (played by William Mapother) established the Atticus Institute, a parapsychology laboratory focused on research into paranormal phenomena such as psychokinesis, precognition, telepathy, and other fringe sciences. Despite facing countless setbacks and ridicule, Dr. West remained steadfast in pursuing his goals. In 1975, his laboratory was forced to shut down due to a certain fraud, and at that moment, a somewhat neurotic woman named Judith Winstead (played by Rya Kihlstedt) was brought to the lab. She had gained psychic abilities after an injury, and her seemingly genuine powers quickly astonished even the most experienced scientists. Throughout this process, Judith's abilities intensified, reaching a level of uncontrollability.
