In 1998, the financial crisis continued to wreak havoc in Asia, and due to the restrictions imposed by the IMF, the Korean economy also fell into decline... In Yeosu, South Korea, Captain Jae-soo (played by Kim Yun-seok) was deeply worried about keeping his fishing boat afloat. Finally, for economic reasons, he accepted a highly risky mission: to transport a group of Chinese Korean defectors to South Korea. Jae-soo and five crew members boarded the “Jianjin” again, heading to the rendezvous point at sea. In heavy rain, the crew brought dozens of illegal immigrants on board, among whom two women sparked the interest of the lonely crew members. The rookie crew member Dong-jik (played by Park Yoo-chun) fell in love at first sight with a younger woman named Hong-mae, even risking his life to jump into the sea to save her. Dong-jik hid Hong-mae in the warm engine room, while the other defectors all perished due to a refrigerator malfunction. To protect Hong-mae, Dong-jik was willing to fight to the death against the other crew members...
