"My mother taught me to speak, why must I remain silent?" With the death of her grandmother and a malfunctioning elevator in their building, transporting the coffin to the street becomes a situation of great embarrassment for all, reflecting the daily life of Black girl Habib. The newly elected white doctor neighbor, who 'justly' takes in Syrian refugees, ignores the plight of the long-established Black community and harshly pushes for a forced eviction order, forcing Habib to take to the streets in protest during what should be a universally joyful Christmas. As oppression becomes increasingly unreasonable, will the residents' anger spiral out of control? After winning the Cannes award for "The Tears of a Lonely City," Laïka Joly once again delves deep into the roots of class and racial conflict in French society: the problem is not scarcity but inequality, not poverty but insecurity, this I believe.
