Director Michael Haneke won the Palme d'Or again with this film. The two veteran actors in this film are the Venice Film Festival Best Actress and the Cannes Berlin Best Actor. Anne (played by Emmanuelle Riva) and Georges (played by Jean-Louis Trintignant), this elderly couple, are both over 80 years old. They are retired, cultured music teachers.
