The Mute (Jin Feng) was abandoned by his family as a child and was bullied by the Lai family's only son, Jin Huo (Zhang Peishan). Despite this, he remains kind-hearted and willing to help others. Jin Huo marries the beautiful bride, Xiu Zhi (Ling Bo), but his brusque personality intimidates her. Additionally, Jin Huo has an affair with a married worker, A Man (Ling Ling), and thereafter shows no interest in his bride, often beating and scolding her. To repay the Lai family's kindness in raising him, the Mute conceals the affair between A Man and Jin Huo, sparing Jin Huo from imprisonment. Xiu Zhi is grateful for the Mute's help in saving her husband but is brutally beaten by him and driven out. Later, when the Lai family is set on fire, the Mute rushes to help, risking his own life to save others...
