The wandering hero Yan Qing (played by Jiang David) is introduced to the emperor by the famous courtesan Li Shishi and receives a royal pardon. The entire Liangshan gang accepts the imperial amnesty and heads south to subdue Fang La. The Liangshan army continuously defeats local forces, although many heroes fall in battle. As the army attacks Hangzhou, strategist Wu Yong sends seven heroes, including Zhang Shun (played by Li Xiuxian), Yan Qing, Shi Jin (played by Chen Guantai), Li Kui (played by Fan Meisheng), and Shi Xiu, into the city as an ambush. Inside the city, Li Kui inadvertently alerts the entire Hangzhou, while Yan Qing cleverly escapes. Shi Xiu sacrifices himself to avenge his sworn brother against the enemy commander Shi Bao. In Hangzhou, others capture Fang La's son, Fang Tianding, while Shi Jin heroically dies covering the retreat. Outside the city, Yan Qing battles the Southern sumo master Si Xing Fang and returns to the Liangshan camp. The army plans to use the Yongjin Gate as a breakthrough to attack Hangzhou, with generals like Wu Song (played by Di Long) leading the siege. The quest to defeat Fang La and uphold justice becomes successful.
