Once, Simon (played by Al Pacino) was a hotshot Shakespearean tragedy actor, achieving countless glories and breaking numerous records. However, Simon has now grown old, and thus his career has withered. Too deeply immersed in the theatrical world, he confuses reality with illusion, and his life has entered a dead end from which he cannot turn back. One day, in a nursing home in Connecticut, Simon meets a woman named Peggy (played by Greta Gerwig). Peggy is only half Simon's age, yet this does not prevent the two from quickly falling in love.
