Long-haired young man Hiroshi Takagi (portrayed by Tadanobu Asano), who loves art, suffers a serious car accident. Although he miraculously escapes, he completely loses his memory, having no recollection of who his parents are. Following this, he develops a deep interest in the medical books at home, and under the suggestion of his father, Takashi (played by Kazumi Kurita), Hiroshi focuses on his studies and gains admission to a medical university. At school, he is distant and isolated, indifferent to the advances of a girl named Yuki (played by KIKI). During a dissection class, the body of a young woman touches him deeply.
