Manolo (Luis Fernando Peña) lives with his parents in the small Mexican town of Santa Anna, relying on farming for a living. The Del Rio Water Company has built a dam on a nearby river, causing severe water shortages in the region. The high water prices drive desperate farmers to steal water from the dam. The company’s headquarters in the U.S. employs pilot Rudy (Jacob Vargas) to remotely operate drones via a mental connection to target "terrorists" protecting the dam, which leads to the destruction of Manolo's home and the death of his father. Heartbroken, Manolo leaves his hometown for Tijuana, a border city, in search of work, where he meets writer Luz (Lennor Varela). Luz helps Manolo connect to the "node," allowing him to control robots across the U.S. for grueling labor through mental remote control. As Luz deepens her contact with Manolo to continue selling his story, they eventually fall in love. However, the person on the other side of the network buying Manolo's story turns out to be Rudy…
