The story takes place in 1957 England, where Benny (Minnie Driver) and Eve (Geraldine O'Rawe) reunite with their primary school classmate Nan (Saffron Burrows). Through Nan, a man named Jack (Chris O'Donnell) enters their lives. Benny is deeply attracted to the lively and enthusiastic Jack, who pursues her passionately, and before long, they become a couple. Meanwhile, Nan meets the older and charming Simon (Colin Firth). However, struggling with complex emotions and influenced by Catholic values, Nan seduces Jack, and they begin an affair which she takes seriously, even forcing Jack to marry her.
