1700 nautical miles from the Sunda Strait, a man sailing alone across the Indian Ocean (played by Robert Redford) murmurs in despair, as it seems that all is lost. Eight days ago, while still dreaming, he encountered a series of calamities: first, his sailboat collided with a shipping container that had fallen into the sea, and then the cabin began to flood uncontrollably, leaving him unable to make repairs. The misfortunes that followed swept away all hope like a storm at sea. Navigation and radio equipment were rendered useless, cutting off all external communication; torrential rain and monstrous waves ruthlessly assaulted the ship he relied on for survival. This once resourceful old sailor was forced to abandon ship, while sharks circled around the inflatable raft, eagerly seeking their next meal. Furthermore, extreme hunger constantly tormented his stomach, wearing down his will. The footsteps of death approached him step by step, until the end. The film received a nomination for Best Sound Editing at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014 and won nominations for Best Original Score and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama at the 71st Golden Globe Awards in 2014.
