Li Yannán (played by Chen Hou) is the pianist of the dance troupe, while Chen Xiaoyun (played by Zheng Peipei) is a singer. The two have known each other for many years, with Li Yannán often guiding Chen Xiaoyun in her singing techniques. As time goes by, their feelings for each other deepen. Hong Ling (played by Du Juan) is the highly regarded leading actress of the dance troupe, and confident in her talents, she demands a pay raise, threatening to go on strike. However, Li Yannán finds Chen Xiaoyun and lets her take Hong Ling's place in the performance. Thus, the immensely talented Chen Xiaoyun becomes an overnight sensation, and the boss even fires the now-ineffective Hong Ling.
Chen Xiaoyun's outstanding performance attracts the attention of playboy Du Bangjie (played by Jiang Guangchao), who soon passionately pursues her. Although Li Yannán feels very sad watching Chen Xiaoyun being pursued, he chooses to silently wait for her.
